Pradhan Mantri Ujjwal Yojana (PMUY) 2.0

The government’s original Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 (PMUY) gave low-income families, mostly in rural areas, free LPG connections. Under Ujjwala 2.0, they want to help even more by giving them a free first refill and stove on top of the LPG connection. The goal is to improve health by getting people to use less traditional, smoke-producing cooking methods, which can cause breathing problems. Ujjwala 2.0 is aimed at migrant workers and families who don’t have proof of residency. It makes the process easier by letting people self-declare their address, making it easier for them to get clean energy. This program supports the government’s vision of a smoke-free and healthier India by giving women more power, improving indoor air quality, and protecting the environment.

What is Pradhan Mantri Ujjwal Yojana 2.0

In May 2016, India’s “Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana 2.0” was launched by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG). A program called the Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana (PMUY) was introduced by the Indian government in 2016 to give women from families below the poverty line free connections to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The goal was to provide rural and underprivileged households with access to clean cooking fuels like LPG after they had previously relied on coal, firewood, cow dung cakes, and other conventional fuels. Traditional cooking fuels had a negative effect on both the environment and rural women’s health..

The scheme aimed to provide 8 crore LPG connections to deprived households by March 2020.

On September 7, 2019, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India handed over the eighth crore LPG connection in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

The release of 8 crore LPG connections under the scheme has also contributed to increasing LPG coverage from 62% on May 1, 2016 to 99.8% on April 1, 2021.

Ujjwala 2.0: Additional allocation of 1.6 crore LPG connections under the PMUY Scheme, with special provisions for migrant households. The scheme was launched in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
